The Seedlings Project

Art. Music. Pop Culture.

About

The Seedlings Project arose out of a self-designed project proposal for the Jay and Rose Phillips Family Foundation of Minnesota, which supports efforts that address the unmet human and social needs of individuals, families, and communities that have the least access to resources. As a recipient of this scholarship, the Seedlings Project strives to address modern Hmong teenage issues, promote self-expression in the arts and to encourage exploration of the self. The project’s goal is to produce a sustainable online magazine encapsulating these values.

This summer, the Seedlings Project underwent a 10 week program to jump start this online magazine, targeted toward Hmong youth and adolescents to advocate for self-expression, identity and social issues in the community.

Currently, the Seedlings Project is comprised of three main administrators. If you’re interested, please refer to our Team Members tab to learn more!

We would like to thank the following organizations for their help in carrying out our mission.
The Center for Hmong Arts and Talent (CHAT)

CHAT is an organization that exists to nurture, explore and illuminate the Hmong American experience through artistic expressions. Through CHAT, the Seedlings Project worked with the Youth Leadership Group to write stories for this first issue. We happily thank them for their generous donation of time, space and materials that they have made available to the Seedlings Project.

Shades of Yellow (SOY)

SOY is a Hmong LGBTQ nonprofit organization that works to provide support, education, advocacy, and leadership development to Hmong LGBTQ and allies. With SOY, the Seedlings Project has been able to partner up with various members to bring workshops that would helped sparked discussions of identity, journalism and the importance of culture and documentation. SOY has also provided a spacious meeting room for the Seedlings Project during the summer and through to 2014.
